The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said that telecom service providers will need to deposit all unclaimed money of consumers, including excess charges and security deposit, in the Telecommunication Consumers Education and Protection Fund (TCEPF)
- The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had notified the Telecommunication Consumers Education and Protection Fund Regulations, 2007 which created the ‘Telecommunication Consumers Education and Protection Fund.’
- Any amount charged in excess of the notified rates by telecom service providers, which they are not able to refund to the concerned subscribers, are credited into the fund.
- The income from the Fund is utilised to undertake programmes to educate consumers of the telecommunication services on the recommendation of a committee.
